Spring and summer is the perfect time to bring the indoors out, adding another room to your home. Decorating a patio might seem a challenge, but actually its easy as the layout is already done for you. Try and create more than just a patio. Begin with a focal point like water feature, a shrub or a tree or an outside fire place.

Colour Scheme
This step is fun, the colour scheme doesn’t have to be brown and green becouse its outside. Pick your favourite colours or you could continue with the scheme already used in your interiors.

Furniture
Entertaining outdoors however, requires comfortable seating and lounging outdoor furniture. You can turn your patio into the envy of all your friends and neighbours by creating a luxurious retreat, outdoor living spaces create transition spaces between the interior of a house and the backyard. When buying furniture choose what suits existing outdoor pieces and your family’s lifestyle and personality.

Accessories
Accessories makes a big difference. Here you don’t have to spend a lot of money as you can use what you already have. Depending on your personal taste, outdoor accessories  includes candles, planters, mirrors, cushions, ornamental grass, hanging lanterns and inexpensive solar powered lights.

When buying a recliner one must focus on the frame, ask sales assistant questions what’s  the frame is made from, check the manufacturer’s guarantee  should be one that lasts up to five years. If you are buying the recliner for yourself or a member of your family try sitting on it. The key here is the comfort though the look is as important. The footrest should be easy to manuever. Never buy a chair that squeaks.

In the past people used to leave their offices and went home but, now we all seem to have a home office and has become an essential part of our homes.
Incorporating a work place in a small home can be a challenge, as most home offices have multiple uses. Light and storage options are key, especially in small spaces. If you don’t have a separate room designated as an office, the other way is to lay out your office in another room so that it doesn’t take over the entire room. You can also create a home office out of a wardrobe.

Lighting and storage options are key. Substantial lighting is needed for your office, use whatever works for your space, ceiling, table, floor or wall mounted lights. The space you create should be efficient, accessible, and organized. Sometimes its hard to find furniture or storage solution that suits our home especially in small spaces so consider having costume made storage solution, might cost a little bit more but will be worth it.

This week I will be sourcing tiles for our latest project and last night I came across these images from Johnson Tiles galleries. With so much to choose from it can be a daunting process to pick tiles suited for one’s interior. I love below image the  beautiful textured tiles will give depth to any interior.

Natural stone tiles are becoming increasingly popular in the home as they reflect the earth’s natural beauty. They can be used for both interiors and exterior. Though natural stone tiles are more expensive than the average ceramic tile or porcelain tile, purchasing natural stone tiles should an investment, rather than a cost, as tiles can add value to your home.

Natural stone tiles are commonly available in five different materials, sandstone, slate travertine, marble, and limestone. These come in three different finishes, polished, where a layer of gloss has been added, riven, where the faces of the tiles are irregular due to the material being split by hand and finally honed, which is where the surface has been ground to a smooth surface.

When I’m sourcing for a particular item I always come across interesting objects like this wooden cabinet. At a quick glance one could mistake it for a pile of wood but its actually a Face-cord Cabinet. This name refers to the measurements for firewood. This beautiful piece can be used for storage, when placed in any room will add a rustic feel or adorning to any modern interior. This deceiving piece of furniture brings the outside in.

Spring is truly upon us, time to de-clutter and re-decorate our homes. One of the most important rooms in the home is the  multifunctional  family room.The key here is to have multifunctional furniture, opt for an ottoman which can be used as extra seating, a coffee table, foot rest and for storage.  A modular sofa is perfect for family to sit together. This room is cosy and yet stylish, the neutral colours tones work really well with the warm red accents. This is probably the basic multifunctional family room,  I understand that every family is different so add what works best for your family.

For smaller spaces use big and bold colours and if you haven’t used wallpaper before, a hallway or any small room is a good start. Amazingly, the human eye can see the difference between around seven million colours, but most of us tend to opt for colours that we feel safe and comfortable with, and don’t have the confidence to choose more unusual ones.

On the other hand, we are also seeing neutrals this season, traditional colours are coming in pastel options. the image belows from Home Designing galleries the neutral walls have been mixed with vibrant yellow to give the room more dimention.Today’s interior design is about taking the classic or vintage look and updating it for today’s trendsetter.

As children grow their rooms changes with them, most people decorate their children’s room at least four times starting from baby to  young adults. It can be a challenge to keep  up with their demands as they grow older. When it comes to re-decorate a child’s bedroom, make your child feel special by involving  them decorating process they know what they want, and would loke to be part of it.  After that, the process should become easier. Consider re-cycling some items, re-decorating can be done on a budget or you can splash if you have the means.

Some times just changing one or two things in a space would make a difference. Above image is the union jack design duvet cover that would suit maybe a younger boy and the vintage union jack below would suit  pre- teen upwards and will brighten up any boy’s bedroom. Both these styles would work really well in any neutral colour scheme.

Pink is a bright, fresh color and can create stylish interiors. I must say it’s not everyone’s favourite colour for interior design. Pink can work well with other colours like green, white, turquoise and neutrals.                From ColinandJustin  this stylish living room above, pink has been mixed with gold, a scheme that can be hard to pull off to many people.

 Accents

Here gold has been used as the perfect complement to the pink colour scheme.  Again the gold framed mirror sits perfect on the wall. The white table lamp shade injects drama into this stylish living room. The pink floral window dressing works well with the overall look of this stylish living room.

Pink & Neutrals

Pinks works well with neutrals as demonstrated again on the walls, the window end of the room. The patterned wallpaper  adds depth and dimension to the room.  The area rug has been used to create harmony and adding texture to this living room.
